Oil Paintings, Plein Air, Prints, Hand Drawn Tessellations

I saw these poppies last summer growing along the roadside on a warm summer day in June. They are not my favorite flower but the light reflecting from them was beautiful. I wasnt able to capture the light exactly as I had imagined. Its been 30 years since I’ve completed an oil painting of flowers. So I’m out of practice. This is a oil on linen of the poppies from June 2023. A couple stages below and the reference photograph.

I added a bloom to the reference photo to make the composition more balanced. The color pallette included, cad red, alizarin crimson, red madder, cobalt violet, manganese violet, cad yellow, burnt umber, burnt sienna, cremintiz white, ultramarine blue and yellow ochre, phthalo green.
