Oil Paintings, Plein Air, Prints, Hand Drawn Tessellations

This is a linocut of a tessellation of Icarus from symmerty group C 4 from the original pen and ink drawing Rise and Fall (see the drawing on my website). The linocut is designed like a chessboard and a transformation from squares to the Icarus tile. I have always been fascinated with the myth of Icarus who flew to close to the sun. You can see several versions of that design in my work including a hyperbolic tessellation that I created. I seem to be attracted to that motif.
