This oil painting is inspired by a local farm field on a clear summer night. I took artistic license and removed the moon from the night sky, and a farm building from the foreground. I also significantly enhanced the light halos around the stars to provide a more dramatic focal point. There were other stars visible I just left them out. The brushwork is quick and impressionistic similar to a few other paintings completed earlier. I completed another painting of the Milky Way in a similar style. A huge nod to Van Gogh and his night sky paintings.
Colors included yellow ochre, cad light yellow, cad orange, nickel titanate yellow, phthalo green, ultramarine blue, old holland violet blue, mangenese violet, phthalo blue, titanium white.
Its a 16×20 inch oil on canvas. A straightforward little sketch and painting a short walk from the studio. I used the sketch to capture and get a feel of some of the tall grasses.
