Oil Paintings, Plein Air, Prints, Hand Drawn Tessellations

Ten thousand sunflower paintings. That’s probably an understatement. I was going to name this “Not Vincent” but thought it was to cliched and never intended to make it look like his work. Its hard not to think about his iconic offerings when you paint sunflowers. Maybe its a right of passage- I don’t know. The truth is it was hard to make this a unique work or even “not remember his”. It represents my vision and color of the grandest flower, the King of Flowers for all painters.

I wanted to paint an interpretion that was mine. I have to admit it was fun to paint this little still life even though I broke the cardinal rule and centered it on the canvas and even dared to “mirror” it. This is my only painting of just sunflowers as the center of interest. It will have to do for now.

The color palette included, cadmium yellow, rose madder, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, cadmium orange, Old Holland Blue-Violet, phthalo green, transparent earth and cremitz white.
